Ford Introduces the SecuriAlert for Ford Owners to Prevent Car Break-ins and Theft

Ford is introducing a new tech that will be integrated into the FordPass app called SecuriAlert. This tech feature will be able to alert the driver of anyone trying to break into their Ford vehicle and is stated to be different from the normal vehicle alarm system. Once this feature is activated on the app, a notification is then sent to the driver’s smartphone, which includes any attempt to break into the vehicle or gain any access with a key. This provides to drivers with a peace of mind once they are away from their respective vehicles, thereby and allowing them to act quickly by preventing the theft from happening once they are signalled.

Richard Bunn, director of retail connectivity solutions at Ford Europe stated that ”SecuriAlert builds on Ford’s growing connectivity ecosystem to empower owners with the knowledge that if something happens with their vehicle when they aren’t driving it, they will be the first to know”.

The app also makes use of the car's existing sensors to detect if an attempt is being made to enter the vehicle.  Furthermore, it allows the driver to be fully equipped in fighting back against car theft, which has become an issue in the United Kingdom over the past few years.

According to Fleet News, it was reported in 2020 that vehicle thefts had risen to the highest level in a span of four years as more than 150,000 cars, vans, motorcycles were reported to be stolen between 2018-2019. This was stated to be an increase of 10,000 vehicles in comparison to the year before and a 56% increase compared to 4 years earlier, based on data accumulated by RAC Insurance.  Additionally, a survey made by the UK Department of Transport suggested that one in three vehicles in cities are parked on the street overnight making them susceptible to theft.

Ideally, this feature should primarily be used if the driver is planning to park their car in an open car park or on the street for a long period whether they are staying at a place overnight or staying indoors during the day. When leaving the car, the driver can simply press the ‘armed’ button to activate the SecuriAlert system and when the driver returns to the vehicle to go to work or to go on an errand, they can press the ‘disarmed’ button to deactivate the system using the FordPass app.

So, what do you think about this new tech feature for Ford drivers? Do you think it will work in favour of drivers or not?
